About Wine Reserve

The term “Reserve Wine” originates back to the days when a winery would reserve some of their vintage, age the wine in barrels and bottles and keep it cellared until it was ready to drink, this is still the practice today in some parts of Europe most notably in Rioja, Spain and Chianti, Italy. The wines that were reserved for aging tended to be from the best vines grown in the best plots where terroir and climate united to create the exemplary expression of the grape.

Wine Barrels

Today not many wineries, especially the newest, can afford this practice of cellaring wines until their optimum readiness is achieved. Wine Reserve has done this for you – we have curated some of Australia’s most iconic wines over three decades, added some international celebrities and cellared them to their peak. Now we are making these wines available to you……

Please make yourself familiar with the following conditions of purchase relating to our aged vintage wines.

Bottle Minimum fill level for aged wines:

0 – 15 years – fill level should be into the neck of the bottle for Bordeaux bottles and 1-2cm from the base of the cork for Burgundy bottles.

15 – 20 years – fill level to base of neck or above for Bordeaux bottles or up to 3cm from the base of the cork for burgundy bottles.

20+ years - fill level should be high shoulder or above for Bordeaux bottles or 3 to 5cm from the bottom of the cork for burgundy bottles.

Labels & Capsules

Whilst we take every care with all bottles cellared a label on a 30 year old bottle is a 30 year old label. Occasionally there may be some label damage from light scuffing, minor discolouration to slight tears. Similarly, damage may occur on the capsule (foil) whilst this will usually be on a very minor scale if you are buying to collect please advise us prior to purchase and we can provide additional information.

All wines are sold on the premise that we are not selling perfection merely masterpieces.

Cork

As a natural product, cork dries out over time. Please be aware that with aged wines special care should be taken when opening as corks may crumble or break, this is not a fault and does not affect the quality or taste of the wine.

Refunds

We offer full refunds on wines from current release to 10 years old for any faults including TCA within 90 days of purchase. The wine must be returned to us including the original cork for evaluation with a copy of your original receipt.

Unfortunately with older wines we cannot guarantee the drinkability of each and every bottle and all wines are offered for sale on an “as is” basis. Be aware that flavour profiles can change dramatically in older wines. If you are unsure that you will enjoy the flavours that come with older wines, we recommend you contact us with your queries first. A refund cannot be given for wines that you simply do not enjoy.
